OLD TOWN PARANORMAL INVESTIGATION EQUIPMENT |
Current theory maintains that paranormal entities will use energy from their surrounding environment to manifest themselves or make their presence known. As a result paranormal investigators employ a wide variety of equipment, equipment designed to measure fluctuations or changes in the environment being investigated. This includes equipment that can measure electromagnetic fields (EMF), extremely low frequencies (ELF) and equipment that can measure environmental conditions such as ambient/spot temperatures and humidity. Additionally equipment that can monitor and record at levels beyond what human senses can perceive is employed. This type of equipment includes infrared (IR) lights that can be used to record video in total darkness and digital voice recorders used to pick up EVPs (electronic voice phenomena). Below is a listing of equipment currently employed in our investigations. |
IR BULLET VIDEO CAMERA |
OTPI uses infrared bullet video cameras which record in color and black and white. The infrared night vision range is 30' - 90' feet in complete darkness. We use 100' BNC cable to connect these cameras to our digital video recorder. |
4 CHANNEL DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDER (DVR) |
The DVR is used to record an entire investigation with stationary cameras set up strategically throughout a home or place of business. The 4 channels allow for multiple views simultaneously during an investigation. Videos can be transferred from the DVR to a computer for detailed analysis. If something "moves on its own" the DVR will record it. |
SONY HANDYCAM DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDER |
OTPI uses Sony Digital Camcorders equipped with Sony's Super Night Shot Plus system for our handheld video documentation and as stationary cameras. The cameras allow for close-in video recording of equipment readings and video recording in total darkness. |
INFRARED VIDEO LIGHTS |
The Sony HVL-IRM video light is used to enhance the Night Shot Plus capability of our Sony Camcorders. In addition we use the SIMA SL-10IR & SIMA SL-20IR video lights during our investigations. All of these lights use high intensity infrared LEDs to enhance greatly the night vision of the digital video recorders. These lights give us the capability to record in complete darkness up to 25'. |
The digital camera is used to document the entire investigation from start to finish. The main function of the camera is to document 'before' and 'after' subject areas to determine if any physical changes occur in the environment such as movement of an object. We also use the camera to document the readings of our meters. The camera works well in low light conditions easily capturing light & energy phenomena. In addition a Canon 35 mm SLR film camera is used along with the digital camera. |
KODAK Z712 IS DIGITAL CAMERA |
EMF-822A ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD DETECTOR |
The EMF 822A meter is used to track electromagnetic field variances during an investigation. A common held belief is that readings with a fluctuation between 2.0 to 7.0 mGauss may indicate potential activity. Readings outside this range may have a natural source such as electrical wiring or a household appliance. |
KII - EMF Meter |
The KII EMF meter is designed to detect extremely low frequency (ELF) shifts in the electromagnetic field. It displays those fluctuations within five defined levels through a series of LED lights. High EMF fields can have adverse affects on some people who are sensitive to electromagnetic fields. Spikes in an EMF field can be an indicator of exposure from electrical sources such as home wiring. Prolonged exposure to high EMF levels can adversely affect a person's perception of their surroundings. |
INFRARED SPOT THERMOMETER |
This thermometer is used to measure the surface temperature of objects. A comparison can then be made with the ambient room temperature measured by a stationary thermometer. It helps determine if 'cold spots' are the result of environmental conditions such as doors and windows that are in the vicinity of the investigation area. |
LAPTOP AND DESKTOP COMPUTERS |
OTPI uses a variety of computers, both laptops and desktops, in the analysis of collected data. The computers allow audio, video, and photographic data to be reviewed in detail for evidence of possible paranormal activity. In addition they are used to prepare the data/evidence for our client's review and presentation. We use specialized software to review and analyze all data collected to insure accurate results. |
PASSIVE INFRARED ALARM |
The passive infrared alarm is used as a motion detector that is placed in areas where the current investigative sweep is not taking place. If something breaks the infrared beam then a chime will sound that will alert the investigation team to shift their focus. It also assists in securing an area by placing it in an undisclosed location when that area is not closed off for the investigation. |
NIGHT VISION MONOCULAR |
The night vision monocular provides another perspective during our investigative sweep. The infrared lens provides excellent clarity with no ambient light that would be generated from the screen of a video camcorder. The night vision capability allows for an infrared view of the investigation area at the same time it is being documented with the video camcorder. |
MEL 8704R Meter |
The MEL-8704R is a combination EMF meter and ambient temperature meter. This tool was designed specifically for paranormal investigations. It allows the investigator to track dynamic EMF movement and measure ambient temperature 'cold spots' at the same time. This model has an infrared safe flashlight and backlight display. |
GREEN 30wM LASER GRID |
GEOPHONE SENSOR |
The Geophone is used as a visual tool to recognize vibrations so faint that they would go undetected otherwise. If there are claims of footsteps or movement of furntiture, we will be able to visually see and record these 'vibrations' with this sensor. This sensor is also used to detect vibrations that occur normally such as from road traffic, window rattling, and HVAC systems. |
This high powered laser emits a grid containing thousands of green lights which are useful for detecting shadows or general visual disturbances. Anything that passes through the lights of the grid will distort their pattern allowing for easier observation and recording. |
